NATCHEZ — A mass for Harriette C. Scruggs Wingfield, 82, who died peacefully Friday, Dec. 29, 2017, surrounded by her close loving family members, will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Basilica.

Her ashes will be laid to rest with a private gathering at Natchez Cemetery at a later date.

Arrangements are under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Mrs. Wingfield was born June 28, 1935, in Iuka, the daughter of John Howell Scruggs Sr. and Natalie Couillard Scruggs.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, William “Judge” Luscombe; two sisters, Melanie Scruggs Shereb and Mary Scruggs Magley; and two brothers, Thomas Gilbert and John Scruggs.

Survivors include her loving and dear husband, Vernon Allen Wingfield; two sons, Jeffrey Allen Wingfield Sr. and Thomas “Clay Boy” Wingfield; one daughter, Natalie Bello; five grandchildren; 13 nieces and nephews; and a number of great-nieces and great-nephews.

She lived a wonderful family life surrounded by all of the people who loved her so dearly.
