BROOKHAVEN — Services for Violet “Mildred” Freeman Jones, 93, of Natchez, who died Monday, Jan. 1, 2018, at Merit Health Natchez, will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethel United Methodist Church in Brookhaven.

Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Brookhaven Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.

Mrs. Jones was born Feb. 6, 1924, in Natchez, the daughter of Fred and Mackie Rushing Freeman. She was the youngest of seven children, Lettie Mae Ross, C’Belle Freeman, Idell Beesley, Fred Freeman Jr., Percy Freeman and Thelma Russell.

Mildred was an excellent seamstress and quilted with her three sisters. She also enjoyed sewing, word search, listening to gospel music and taking her children to church. She helped with guitars and music and influenced the Case Brothers from Concord Baptist Church.

Mrs. Jones passed her love for gospel music and singing to her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed being around family.

She was a mentor for the tenants at Jeffersonian Apartment where she lived for 14 years. She was also a member of Morgantown Baptist Church outreach and was involved in the card ministry.

Mrs. Jones had been employed by Kress 10-cent Store, Stahl Urban Factory and Fred’s Department Store.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Clyde P. Jones Sr.; her parents; stepmother, Mamie Freeman; her siblings; two sons-in-law, Roy Smith and Dennis Calcote; and one great-granddaughter, Layla Grace Calcote.

Survivors include four children, Lucille Jones Smith of Natchez, Christine Jones Perry and husband, Lester, of West Lincoln, and Clyde “Buddy” P. Jones Jr. and wife, Ann, and Brenda Jones Calcote, all of Brookhaven; eight grandchildren, Rhonda Lynch, Dale Perry, John Smith and wife, Jennifer, Kenneth Calcote, LeAnn Waldrop and husband, Dale, Paul Calcote and wife, Angie, Daniel Calcote and Kelly Grice and husband, Chris; 11 great-grandchildren, Shane Lynch, J.T. Lynch, Landon Lynch, Johnathan Smith, Julianne Smith, Collin Waldrop, Ramsey Caroline Waldrop, Austin Sinclair, Waylon Calcote, Milly Ann Grice and Merry James Grice; two great-great-grandchildren, Jase Lynch and Samantha Sinclair; and a number of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Pallbearers will be Kenneth Calcote, Paul Calcote, Daniel Calcote, Dale Waldrop, Chris Grice and Landon Lynch.
