Prep roundup: Ferriday, Vidalia, Natchez boys earn wins

LAKE PROVIDENCE, La. — Marquell Griffin led Ferriday High School with a game-high 28 points as the Trojans overcame a sluggish first quarter to defeat the General Trass High School Panthers 82-68 Friday night in an LHSAA District 2-2A game.

Ferriday had a hard time slowing down General Trass in the first quarter and by the time the quarter was over, the Trojans were down 25-15. The Trojans responded in a big way over the final three quarter, starting with a 27-12 advantage in the second quarter.

Jer’Lyric Brooks added 16 points and Montrieze Sandage had seven points for the Trojans.

Ferriday (15-10, 8-1) plays host to district and Concordia Parish rival Vidalia High School next at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Vidalia 54, Beekman Charter 38

VIDALIA — Jaquan Wilson led a balanced scoring attack for Vidalia High School with 16 points as the Vikings cruised to a 54-38 win over the Beekman Charter School Tigers in LHSAA District 2-2A action Friday night.

Vidalia had its way with Beekman Charter on both ends of the court in the first quarter, which ended with the Vikings taking at 17-4. Ray J. Ransom had nine points and DeMikal McCoy added seven points.

Daryl Seay led Beekman Charter with a game-high 24 points.

Vidalia (10-9, 4-3) plays at district and Concordia Parish rival Ferriday next at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Natchez High 58, Brookhaven 56

NATCHEZ — Even though Natchez High School had three players score in double figures to just one for Brookhaven High School, the Bulldogs had to hold on for a 58-56 win over the Panthers in an MHSAA Region 6-5A game Friday night.

Natchez High led Brookhaven 17-11 after one quarter of play and 28-22 at halftime. But the Panthers outscored the Bulldogs 17-12 in the third quarter to make it a one-point game at 40-39. However, the Bulldogs answered by outscoring the Panthers 18-17 in the fourth quarter.

Charles Credit led the Bulldogs with a game-high 17 points while Izzy Holmes had 14 points and Shonte Holmes added 13 points.

Natchez High (15-5, 3-1) plays at region foe Forest Hill next at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
