VIDALIA — Services for Vergie May Herring Jackson, 94, of Vidalia, who died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018, at Merit Health Natchez, will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Vidalia Presbyterian Church.

Burial will follow at the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and from noon until service time Wednesday at the church.

Mrs. Jackson was born Sept. 27, 1923, in Iverness, the daughter of Victor Bailey Herring and Addie Briscoe Herring.

She grew up in at the Natchez Protestant Orphanage during the depression. She was a graduate of Natchez High School and studied nursing. She was employed by the Natchez Sanatorium until she married. She then traveled with her husband on various jobs overseas.

Mrs. Jackson was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Ervin Jackson; one sister, Hattie Herring Rutherford of Natchez; one brother, Victor Bailey Houston Herring of Winona; and twin brothers who died shortly after birth.

Survivors include one son, William Herring Jackson and wife, Ruth, of The Woodlands, Texas; two daughters, JoAnn Jackson Gardner and husband, Ronny, of Vidalia, and Joyce Jackson Lepetich and husband, Mato, of Belle Chasse, La.; eight grandchildren, Jeffrey Jackson and wife, Alicia, and Jerrett Jackson, all of The Woodlands, Danielle Jackson of Galveston, Texas, Pam Garcia and husband, Gary, of Houston, Tiffany Gardner Sanford and husband, Guy, of Moselle, Bridget Gardner King and husband, Leigh, of Natchez, Joyelle Lepetich Adolph and husband, Denny, and Mathew Lepetich, all of Belle Chasse; 13 great-grandchildren, JoAnna and Cameron Sanford, Carter Jackson, Nathan, Dylan and Ryan Garcia, Morgan, Sela, and Davin King, Brooke and Emma Kate Adolph, Camilla and Mato Joseph Lepetich, and one great-granddaughter expected in May.

Pallbearers will be Frank Jackson, James Jackson, Jefferson Jackson, Danny Renfro, Roger Rutherford and Clare Shields.
