GONZALES, La.  — The No. 17 Delta Charter School varsity boys soccer team was eliminated from postseason play Saturday night after the Storm fell in the Bi-District Round of the LHSAA Division IV Playoffs to No. 16 Ascension Christian, 7-0.

Despite the loss, DCS coach Daniel Rivera said he was proud of his team.

“It was a rainy, muddy field and we kept slipping,” he said. “But, it’s been a great season for our program in our second year.”

Senior Michael Brown tallied 12 saves for the Storm in the loss.

The Storm will lose Brown, Dezmon Valdez, Chase Gillespie and Jacob Harrison to graduation.

“We have four seniors we will really miss,” Rivera said. “Some will hopefully get the opportunity to play at the college level, so I’m excited for them.

“We are a very young team, so the experience for (the younger players) is great. Now they know how hard it is to get where we were and how important it is to take advantage of the opportunity.”

The boys finished with a record of 7-11-2.

Following Friday’s first-round win, the No. 18 Delta Charter Lady Storm will continue its playoff run at 5:30 p.m. today when it travels to No. 2 Ascension Christian.

“We are looking forward to it,” Rivera said. “The last game was probably the best game we played all year. The girls are really playing with a purpose — something bigger than themselves.”

“They are really clicking at the right time, and we definitely feel like we can win this game.”
