NATCHEZ — Services for Shanta Renee Matthews, 33, of Baton Rouge, formerly of Natchez, who died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2018, will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Beulah Baptist Church with the Rev. Raymond Riley officiating.      

Burial will follow at Sunset View Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of West Gate Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home with a celebration of life wake service at 8 p.m.

Visitation will continue Saturday from noon until service time at the church.

Shanta was born Oct. 29, 1984, in Natchez, the daughter of Calvin Keith Matthews and Margaret Duncan Matthews.

She was a 2004 graduate of Natchez High School and furthered her education at Hinds Community College.

Ms. Matthews was a general manager with Dollar General Store in Baton Rouge. She was a member of Beulah Baptist Church.

She was also a member of the Krewe of Janus. Her hobbies included shopping and traveling. Her greatest joy was being mom to Zamia and Zoey.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Leon Duncan and Ethel Duncan.

Survivors include two daughters, Zamia Washington and Zoey Washington; her mother; her father and wife, Arissa; grandmother, Eva Matthews Smith; two godsons, Vincent Carter Jr. and Jayceon Montgomery; stepson, Zachary Washington Jr.; one brother, Derek Matthews; three sisters, Nakeysha Watkins, Mercedes Moffett and Jordan Mazique; nephew, Daylan Matthews; godsister, Brittney Coach; two uncles, Leon Duncan Jr. and wife, Linda, and Maurice Duncan; five aunts, Gwendolyn Duncan Brandt, Brenda Joyce Letcher, Brenda Parker and husband, Charles, Cathy Matthews Smith, Gwendolyn Krind and husband, Leroy; godfathers, Carl Knight Sr. and Nelson Green; and other relatives and friends.
