Time to get into Mardi Gras spirit

Much of Natchez will do a ceremonial dance today — at least in our minds — in hopes of dry skies tonight for the city’s annual Krewe of Phoenix Mardi Gras Parade.
The good times are set to roll at 6:30 p.m. through the streets of Natchez.
Weather forecasters suggested Thursday that only a slight chance of rain existed around parade time. We hope that forecast remains.
Natchez could use a good parade right now to forget about our problems and simply kick up our heels and have a good time.
Mardi Gras in Natchez is a great time to do just that.
We thank the many volunteers with the Krewe of Phoenix and others whose work and planning will come together in the parade.
This year’s festivities also feature a conclusion that should get the Mardi Gras spirit pumping — a traditional New Orleans style second line will conclude the parade. The second line is something organizers hope becomes an annual draw to enhance the parade.
As much as Natchez likes a good party, we believe it’s a pretty good bet that the second line could be a big hit.
We hope everyone comes out for the parade tonight, stays safe, parties smartly and enjoys the weekend. Happy Mardi Gras, Natchez!
