FAYETTE — A Jefferson County man was charged with murder Saturday morning in the shooting death of a woman at a Fayette convenience store. Jefferson County Sheriff Peter E. Walker said deputies were called at approximately 4:30 a.m. Saturday to Zippy’s convenience store after a 911 caller reported that someone had been shot in the area.

Deputies and emergency responders arrived at the Main Street store and transported 28-year-old Latasha Collins to the Jefferson County Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Walker said an eyewitness to the shooting told deputies that Ikeheem Colenberg, 26, shot Collins.

Sheriff’s deputies arrested Colenberg at approximately 8:30 a.m. and charged him with murder. Colenberg was being held late Saturday without bond set. Walker said a bond likely would not be set until the suspect’s first court appearance on Monday.

Walker said surveillance footage should be able to confirm the legitimacy of the eyewitness’ claim, but that no motive is yet known for the shooting.

Walker said sheriff’s office detectives continue to investigate the shooting.
