FERRIDAY — Services for George Benjamin Ashley, 83, of Ferriday, who died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2018, in Ferriday, will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at Young’s Funeral Home in Ferriday with the Rev. Russell Wagoner and the Rev. Larry Wagoner officiating.

Burial will follow at Harris Chapel Cemetery in Olla, La., with a graveside service at 1:30 p.m. under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Ashley was born Friday, July 13, 1934 in Vicksburg, the son of George Nelson Ashley and Rosielee Vickers Ashley.  He was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing , hunting and spending time with his family.  That was what he loved to do after he retired from the Air Force and construction.

Mr. Ashley proudly served his Country in the United States Air Force and served in Vietnam and the Korean Conflict.

He was the oldest of 12 children.

He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Charlie Ashley.

Mr. Ashley is survived by his wife of 64 years, Vera Elaine Ashley; his mother; four sons, Jackie Ray Ashley and wife, Janie, of Maddisonville, Ky., Frank Nelson Ashley and wife, Michelle, of Bartelsville, Okla., George Dustin Ashley and Emily Cavin of Pineville, La., and Matthew James Ashley and wife, Angela, of Vidalia; one daughter, Sandra Ashley Peck and husband, James, of Hillister, Texas; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Matthew Ashley, James Peck, Tommy Barron, Scott Ashley, Ben Modlin and Ray Ashley.
