Trinity boys advances to South State title game

The Trinity Episcopal Saints overcame a two-point halftime deficit to defeat the Central School Pioneers 66-61 in the boys’ semifinals of the 2018 MAIS Class A South State Tournament at Rebul Academy.
Jakarius Caston led Trinity Episcopal in scoring with 18 points while TJ Peyton and Christian Wright contributed with 11 points apiece. Macon Murphy led Central School (24-8) with a game-high 20 points.
The game between District 5 No. 2 seed Central School out of Grand Cane, La. and District 4 champion and No. 1 seed Trinity was close throughout. The Saints took a 14-13 lead after one quarter of play, but the Pioneers answered with a 14-11 advantage in the second quarter for a 27-25 halftime lead.
The Saints had a response of their own by outscoring the Pioneers 21-18 in the third quarter and 20-16 in the fourth quarter for the come-from-behind victory to clinch their berth in the championship game.
Trinity Episcopal (15-5) will take on the winner of the Riverdale Academy/Union Christian Academy game at 5:15 p.m. today.
