BASSFIELD — The Jefferson County High School Lady Tigers struggled offensively as they were eliminated from the 2018 MHSAA Class 3A Girls’ State Tournament by the Jefferson Davis County Lady Jaguars 35-19 in a second-round game Friday night.
Antrell Gales led Region 7 No. 2 seed Jefferson County with eight points and Kailyn Hammett added four points. The Lady Tigers also had no answer for Azaria Magee, who led Region 8 No. 1 seed Jefferson Davis County with a game-high 26 points.
“We were flat. We couldn’t put it in the ocean,” Lady Tigers head coach Flora McKnight said. “It was just one of those games — bad time of the year to have one of those.”
Indeed it was. Jefferson County didn’t score more than six points in any of the four quarters.
The Lady Jaguars led 11-4 after one quarter of play and 21-10 at halftime. And even though, they didn’t put up nearly as many points as they did in their first-round win over Southeast Lauderdale, they didn’t have to.
Jefferson County finished with an overall record of 22-6.
