Prep roundup: Delta Charter falls, Monterey takes two wins in softball

The Forest High School Lady Bulldogs, ranked No. 6 in the latest LHSAA Class B power ratings, ruined senior night for Delta Charter School as they defeated the Lady Storm 8-2 Tuesday afternoon.

Despite getting three hits from Darby Beach and two hits from Skylar Bolyer, Delta Charter was unable to take advantage of five Forest errors. The Lady Storm scored one run in the bottom of the first inning, but didn’t score again until the bottom of the seventh.

The Lady Bulldogs led 3-1 after an inning and a half and put the game away with four runs in the top of the fourth.

It was the final home regular-season game for seniors Beach, Makenzie Landers, Haley Sharp, Shelbi McManus, and Bailey Yates.

Delta Charter (14-13), which entered this week ranked No. 3 in the Class 1A power ratings, will get a bye in the first round of the LHSAA Class 1A State Playoffs. Head coach Jeannie Beach said the brackets will come out Thursday.

Monterey 13, Georgetown 1 (Game 1; 5 innings)

MONTEREY — The Monterey High School Lady Wolves, ranked No. 10 in the latest LHSAA Class B power ratings, took care of the Georgetown High School Lady Bulldogs in a varsity doubleheader Tuesday afternoon.

Monterey needed only five innings to defeat Georgetown 13-1 in the first game. Avery Cupit was the inning pitcher. The second game was closer and more competitive, but the Lady Wolves prevailed 6-1 as Harlie Murray picked up the win on the mound.

Monterey (12-8) next plays in the first round of the LHSAA Class B State Playoffs against an opponent at a time and place to be determined when the brackets come out on Thursday.
