Prep roundup: Natchez High still rolling in regular-season finale

The Natchez High School Bulldogs finished off an impressive regular season with a doubleheader sweep of the Jefferson County High School Tigers Tuesday afternoon at Chester Willis Field.
In the first game, Tra Davis and Shavoké Herrington combined to pitch a no-hitter as Natchez High defeated Jefferson County 17-0 in just three innings.
Davis was the winning pitcher, striking out three batters in one and one-third innings. Herrington struck out four batters in his one and two-thirds innings of work.
The Bulldogs struck for nine runs in the bottom of the first inning and plated eight more runs in the bottom of the second. Herrington went 2-for-2 with a triple, two runs batted in and two runs scored. Paul Hargrave was 2-for-2 with one RBI and two runs scored.
Jefferson County managed to get on the scoreboard and got one hit in the second game, but it wasn’t nearly enough as Natchez High claimed a 17-1 victory in three innings.
Hargrave went an inning and a third, gave up no hits, walked none and struck out four batters. Devin Winchester allowed one run on two walks with five strikeouts in an inning and two-thirds.
The Bulldogs scored six runs in the bottom of the first inning before the Tigers scored their only run in the top of the second off Winchester. Tavaris Harding walked and stole two bases before crossing home plate. Mytrell Malone had Jefferson County’s only base hit.
Natchez High would respond in a big way with 11 runs in the bottom of the second inning.
Herrington hit two home runs, drove in five runs and scored two runs. Jakaylin Adams went 2-for-2 with a triple, five RBIs and two runs scored.
Jefferson County, the Region 7-3A No. 4 seed, next plays at St. Andrews Episcopal School, the Region 6-3A No. 1 seed, at 6 p.m. Friday in Game 1 of the first round of the MHSAA Class 3A South State Playoffs.
Region 6-5A champion and No. 1 seed Natchez High (20-5) will await the winner of the first-round series between Region 8-5A No. 3 seed Stone High School and Region 5-5A No. 2 seed South Jones High School in the second round of the MHSAA Class 5A South State Playoffs.
Glenmora 12, Monterey 1
MONTEREY — The Glenmora High School Wildcats defeated the Monterey High School Wolves 12-1 in five innings Tuesday afternoon in an LHSAA District 4-B game.
No other information on the game was available. Monterey (4-13, 0-5) plays at Glenmora Thursday at 4 p.m. in the Wolves’ regular-season finale.
