James Stewart O’Brien

NATCEHZ — Memorial services for James “Jimmy” Stewart O’Brien, 60, of Natchez, who died Thursday, April 19, 2018 at his residence, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary Basilica with the Rev. David O’Connor officiating.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Tuesday until time of service at the church.

Jimmy was currently a licensed clinical social worker at Southwest Mississippi Planning and Development District. He was formerly employed by the Mississippi Department of Human Services and helped countless children who were in dire situations. Jimmy held undergraduate degrees in history and religion as well as master degrees in history from Mississippi State University and social work from the University of Pennsylvania.

He unselfishly took care of his parents for many years prior to their death. Jimmy will be remembered for his sincere concern for others, his dedication to his family and religion, his extraordinary knowledge of history and his warm smile.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Dr. W. T. O’Brien, Jr. and Alice Lafaye O’Brien; and brother, Dr. W. T. O’Brien.

Survivors include his siblings: Lynn Henry and husband, Al; Barbara Brock and husband, Chip; Cathy Letaw; and David O’Brien and wife, Pam; nephew, Dr. Brennan O’Brien of Natchez; niece, Dr. Bridget Callahan of Tallahassee, Fla.; as well as many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who loved him dearly.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations made to St. Mary Basilica or to a charity of choice.
