‘Teen Tribute’ a day for teens to worship

VIDALIA — Riverside Baptist Church and its youth will host “Teen Tribute” from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the church located at 223 Jefferson St. in Vidalia.
The event is open to all area youth in grades 6 to 12.
Thomas Olexy, group member of the Teen Tribute Planning Committee and student at Concordia Parish Academy said the group began hosting monthly events in October 2017.
“Teen Tribute is a time when area youth are invited to come together and worship God,” Olexy said. “Then we continue with fellowship and fun.”
Olexy said the idea came from their youth pastor, the Rev. Philip Harper and Penny Harrigill. As the events have continued, Harper said he has continued to push to see the program expand for the Kingdom of Heaven.
“The term ‘tribute’ means ‘to give willingly,’” Olexy said. “Teen Tribute allows the youth to give their time freely, on a day not normally a worship day, to worship God for all of the things He has done.”
Olexy said the committee and the church plan to continue hosting the events.
“We have had a ‘Teen Tribute’ the last Saturday of every month since last October,” Olexy said. “We do plan to continue them, but they may not always be the last Saturday of the month. Future events will be announced ahead of time.”
The event is free.
As with each previous “Teen Tribute,” the event will include a time of worship; however, Olexy said the theme for the month is “Minute to Win It,” so the games will be relay-style games.
If anyone has any questions about the day or if they need transportation, Olexy said they should call Nicki Roum 225-301-7706 or Rev. Philip Harper 318-719-5228.
