NATCHEZ — Services for Percy Johnson Sr., 85, of Natchez, who died Thursday, April 19, 2018, at Merit Health Hospital Natchez, will be 11 a.m. Monday at Bright Star Baptist Church with the Rev. Cartrell Smith officiating.

Burial will follow at the Natchez National Cemetery under the direction of West Gate Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 4:30 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home and will continue on Monday, from 10 a.m. until service time at the church.

Jr. Johnson was born on June 26, 1932, in Vidalia, the son of Moreal Johnson and Eliza Ricard.  He was educated at St. Francis Catholic School.  Mr. Johnson was a retired City of Natchez sanitation worker.  He was Baptist.  His hobbies included fishing, picking pecans and watching baseball.

Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Roosevelt and J.B. Mikell; one daughter, Catherine Mosby; two sisters, Mary Clay and Erma Webster Mays; mother-in-law, Rosie L. Mikell; father-in-law, Cletus Mikell; and one brother-in-law, Cletus Mikell Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Catherine Johnson; four sons, Richard Lee Mikell, Carson Johnson, Percy Johnson Jr. and Larry Johnson; three daughters, Gladys Diggs, Joan Chatman and Bobbie J. Gordon; and a number of grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  Although he loved all of his grandchildren, Earl L. Gordon Jr. and D.J. Smith just lit up his day.
