FERRIDAY — When Niles Wilson came home to a locked house around 4 a.m. Friday, Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies say he set his wife’s truck on fire.

Deputies arrested Wilson, 56, 351 Thomas Road, Ferriday, on a charge of simple arson early Friday morning.

Deputy Anthony Godbold, who worked the case, wrote in his report that when Wilson stayed out drinking until early Friday morning, his wife locked him out of the house.

Wilson’s wife told the deputies she placed some dry, clean clothes outside, went inside her house and locked the door.

But when Niles Wilson came home just before 4 a.m. Friday and realized he would not be able to get inside, Godbold said the man became angry.

Godbold said Wilson placed the clothes in the bed of his wife’s truck and wrapped clothing around the left rear axle of the vehicle.

Then he set it ablaze, Godbold said.

Wilson’s wife noticed the burning truck, called police and ran outside to put out the fire, the report says, while Wilson fled.

Wilson’s wife put out the fire and officers patrolled the area looking for her husband, to no avail, Godbold’s report said.

The woman told Godbold how she had seen this behavior before, about how she had left the clothes outside for her husband and how she decided she was not letting him inside the house this time, the deputy reported.

Godbold said he instructed Wilson’s wife to call back if she saw the man.

Fewer than 30 minutes later, she did just that.

Godbold said officers returned to the scene, where Wilson had reportedly again set the truck on fire.

Deputies found Wilson hiding in a truck down the street and arrested him.

Wilson was in the Concordia Parish Jail with no bond set as of Friday morning.
