Mississippi falls in 13th Annual Governor’s Cup

Despite winning Day 2 of the 13th Annual Governor’s Cup, the Mississippi Team could not overcome its 10-point deficit from Day 1 and ultimately fell to Arkansas with a final score of 24-16.

Mississippi won 11 of the 20 single’s matches on Saturday at Beau Pré Country Club, including three of the five golfers on the team from Natchez.

Pete Powell defeated Bev Hargraves, Greg Brooking defeated Scott Smith and Casey Ham defeated Byron Shumate to all earn points Saturday for the Mississippi Team.

Mississippi Team Co-Captain and Natchez native Bill Byrne dropped his single’s match with John Tetens. Tom Bryant earned half of a point after tying with Matt Wilmott.

This is the first time Natchez has hosted the cup since its second year in 2007.
