NATCHEZ — Services for William Kurtz “Bill” Lambert, 77, of Natchez, who died Wednesday, May 16, 2018, will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Basilica with the Rev. David O’Connor officiating.
Burial will follow at the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home followed by a rosary service at 7 p.m.
Bill was born March 14, 1941, the son of Joseph Blatchford Lambert and Anna Crawford Lambert. He attended Cathedral High School class of 1960. He earned a bachelor’s degree in science from Mississippi State University and a post graduate degree in cytology from the University of Tennessee in Memphis. He was a resident of Natchez and member of St. Mary Basilica. He was a founding member of Natchez Pathology Laboratory and retired with 50 years of service. He was also an active member of the community. He served on the Cathedral School Board, was president of the Parish Council and president of the Natchez Rotary Chapter. He was an avid golfer, serving as board president of Bellwood Country Club as well as a board member of Beau Pré Country Club. He was affectionately known as “Dad” by his fellow golfers and “Birdie” by his grandchildren. He loved golfing, Mississippi State University sports, his grandchildren and traveling to the Gulf Coast.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Joseph Cooke Lambert; and one sister, Margaret Ann Lambert Poole.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Nancy Johnson Lambert; three daughters, Leslie Lambert Johnson and husband, Alec, of Houston, Texas, Amy Lambert Maher and husband, Colby, of Pensacola, Fla., and Caroline Lambert Houches and husband, Trey, of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; brother-in-law, Jerry Poole of Ridgecrest; six grandsons, Bert Johnson, Blake Johnson, Hayes Maher, Witt Maher, Wes Houchens and Will Houchens; and three granddaughters, Anna Johnson, Laurel Maher and Morgan Maher.
Pallbearers will be Harry Wesley Houchens, Alec Dwayne Johnson, Albert Michael Johnson, William Blake Johnson, Phillip Colburn Maher, Richard Allen Poole and Jeffery Lambert Poole.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Mary Basilica.
