NATCHEZ — Services for Leona Burns Carter, 88, of Natchez, who died Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at Merit Health Natchez, will be 11 a.m. today at Laird Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David O’Connor officiating.

Burial will follow at the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. until service time today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Carter was born July 21, 1929, in Natchez, the daughter of Robert Burns Sr. and Lena Steir Burns.

She was a member of St. Mary Basilica and was a retired clerk for the Adams County Chancery office.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Robert Jr., Conner and Charles Burns; six sisters, Kathleen Dickey, Louise Aubic, Anna Robson, Martha Brown, Elsie Burns and Nell Phillips; one daughter, Kathy Barr; two sons, Charles “Chuck” Carter and Patrick Carter; and one granddaughter, Michelle Barr.

Survivors include, two daughters-in-law, Angie Carter of Natchez and Brenda Carter of Ferriday; five grandchildren, Jennifer, Melissa and Allison Carter of Natchez, Leigh Ann Byrne and Joey Barr, both of Hattiesburg; and a number of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Jack Aubic, Steve Phillips, Johnny Robson, Conner Robson, George Hammack and Taylor Radzewicz.

Honorary pallbearer will be Ray Carter.

Memorials contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association.
