Summer fever: All-star baseball teams ready to travel, host postseason tournaments

As summer quickly approaches, all-star baseball teams will soon be sporting local jerseys across Mississippi and Louisiana.

To follow your favorite all-star team from the area, take a look at this summer’s list of tournaments.

Natchez Dixie Youth

Natchez Dixie Youth will not host any tournaments this season, but will be doing plenty of traveling. Closing ceremonies for the league’s regular season will be 5 p.m. Saturday at Duncan Park.

The 6U All-Stars will play a district tournament beginning on June 22 in Pike County. They will not play a state tournament.

7U and 8U (AA) Coach Pitch will both play district tournaments in Lincoln County also beginning on June 22. The state tournament for 7U will be in Mendenhall, and the state tournament for 8U (AA) will be Philadelphia, both beginning on July 6.

The 9U All-Stars will begin their postseason play on June 22 at a district tournament in Walthall. The 9U state tournament will begin July 6 in Laurel.

10U (AAA) will play in a district tournament beginning June 29 in Lawrence County. The state tournament will begin July 13 in St. Martin.

11U Ozone will begin June 22 at the district tournament. The state tournament will begin July 6 in Laurel.

Natchez Dixie Youth Majors (age 12) and Ozone (age 12) will both play district tournaments in Pine Hills beginning on June 29. State tournaments for both teams will begin July 13 in Brookhaven.

Miss-Lou Majors and Pre-Majors

Miss-Lou Dixie Boys recently began their regular-season league games in Vidalia. League Director Greg Naquin said there are six teams this season with athletes from Adams County Christian School, Delta Charter School, Natchez High, Franklin County, Vidalia High, as well as extras from Jena, La.

Regular-season game will be played on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays with two games a night at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. through June 28 at the recreational complex.

All-Stars for the league’s two divisions — Pre-Majors and Majors — will be chosen at the end of June. The state tournament for both teams will be July 14-18 in New Orleans.

The Miss-Lou Dixie Boys Majors are defending a state championship from last season, while the Pre-Majors most recently won a state title in 2014.

Concordia Dixie Youth

Concordia Dixie Youth Baseball will also be busy with sub-district, district and state tournaments for various ages.

The Concordia T-ball team will host its district tournament beginning on June 21 at the recreational complex in Vidalia. The state tournament for T-Ball will be held July 5-8 in Tioga, La.

The Concordia Machine Pitch All-Star team will begin play in sub-district on June 27 at an undetermined location. The district tournament will be played from June 28 through July 2 in West Monroe, La., and the state tournament will be held from July 5-8 in Jonesboro, La.

Concordia Ozone (age 12) will receive an automatic bid to the state tournament for hosting and will not play in a district tournament. The state tournament will host eight teams on July 20-24 in Vidalia.

Concordia Majors (ages 11-12) and AAA (ages 9-10) will both receive automatic bids the South State Regional Tournament for hosting. Both tournaments will host 16 teams on July 13-17 in Vidalia. State tournaments will then be in Alexandria, La. beginning on July 20.
