Adams County votes for Wicker, Scott for Senate; Evans, Hughes for House

NATCHEZ — Approximately 21 percent of registered Adams County voters turned out for Tuesday’s primaries.

The leading candidates among Adams County voters for the U.S. Senate in the Democrat and Republican parties were, respectively, Omeria Scott, who received 45 percent of the total vote, and incumbent Roger Wicker, who received 84 percent of votes.

Wicker faced off against Richard Boyanton (16 percent), while other Democrats running in the primary included Howard Sherman (26 percent) and David Baria (17 percent), who will face each other in a runoff election on June 26. The winner of the runoff will face Wicker in the November general election.

For the U.S. House of Representatives 3rd Congressional District seat, Democrat Michael Ted Evans and Republican Whit Hughes led in voting in Adams County with 77 percent and 42 percent of the total count, respectively. Evans’ lone opponent was Michael Aycox (23 percent), while other Republicans who received a considerable amount of votes included Michael Guest (23 percent), Perry Parker (16 percent) and Sally Doty (10 percent). Hughes and Guest will face each other in the June 26 runoff. Evan will face the winner of the runoff in the November general election.

The 221 absentee ballots — 125 Democrat and 96 Republican — will be counted today.

  • Michael Aycox — 427 (22.76 percent)
  • Michael Ted Evans — (76.87 percent)
