NATCHEZ – Catholic mass services for Augustine A. Verucchi Jr., 88, of Natchez, who died peacefully at his home surrounded by family Saturday, June 23, 2018, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Assumption Catholic Church with the Rev. Leopold Keffler officiating.

Burial will follow at the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church.

Mr. Verucchi was born May 7, 1930, in Natchez, the oldest son of Augustine Verucchi Sr. and Mary May Verucchi.

He married Betty Vestal Verucchi May 8, 1948, and was happily married for 69 years. Mr. Verucchi was retired from International Paper Company after 38 years of service. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Navy Reserve. He loved spending time with his family, friends and grandchildren, sharing with them his love of fishing, hunting and the outdoors. He was a master of the backyard grill and smoker. He served many years as president of Hustle Bustle Hunting Club located in Rodney. He was a long-time member of Assumption Catholic Church.

Mr. Verucchi was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Betty; one son, Jay Verucchi; and one brother, Salvo “Buddy” Verucchi.

Survivors include two sons, Donnie Verucchi and wife, Carolyn, of Natchez, and Mark Verucchi and wife, Shannon, of Richland; two daughters, Sue Verucchi of Vidalia and Angie Havard and husband, Kenny, of Brandon; 10 grandchildren, Matt Verucchi and wife, Karen, Connor Verucchi and wife, Diane, Tonya Eason and husband, Brian, Colby Verucchi, all of Natchez, Jered Skates and wife, Chasity, of Brookhaven, Hayden Verucchi and wife, Tiffany, of Foxworth, Christy Staggs and husband, Lee, of Denham Springs, La., Raleigh Havard and Tanner Havard of Brandon and Mark Austin Verucchi of Richland; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great- great-granddaughter.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and honorary pallbearers will be great-grandsons.
