NATCHEZ —A Natchez man faces a burglary charge after Adams County Sheriff’s Office deputies said they identified him from video surveillance breaking in to a business from which $1,000 worth of jewelry was stolen.
Owners of the E.J.’s Coin/Variety Shop on U.S. 61 North reported the incident Monday when they discovered the glass front door and Jewelry case inside of the store had been shattered, said Chief Deputy Jerry Brown of the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.
Inside, approximately $1,000 worth of jewelry had been stolen, Brown said.
“None of the jewels have been recovered as of yet,” Brown said. “There was $800 worth of damage to the store itself.”
Brown said the storeowner provided video surveillance, in which investigators identified Jason Hawkins, 43, of 14 Canvas Back Road, Natchez, committing the burglary at 5:30 p.m. Sunday.
Hawkins was arrested Wednesday night and is now in custody at the Adams County Jail. No court date or bond has been set at this time.
Brown said anyone who witnesses any suspicious activity or crime should dial 911.
