GRAVEL HILL — Services for Dorothy Cooper Shaw, 78, of Gravel Hill, who died Thursday, July 5, 2018, at Jefferson County Hospital, will be 11 a.m. Friday at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church in Gravel Hill with the Rev. Victor Willis Sr. officiating.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Spencer Funeral Home in Fayette.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until service time Friday at the church.
Mrs. Shaw was born Jan. 30, 1940, in Jefferson County, the daughter of E.V. Cooper. She was the youngest of two children.
Shaw confessed her love for Christ at an early age. She was baptized became an active member of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church. Prior to the decline of her health, she served on the Mothers Board, was president of the senior choir and a member of the Women’s Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Johnny McGee and husband, James Shaw Sr.; her mother; one daughter, Sharron P. McGee; maternal grandparents, Livy and Rachel Cooper; three aunts, Josie Bell Davis, Rosa Lee Wells and Lula Moore; and three uncles, Seab Davis, Lafayette Wells and Paul Moore.
Survivors include her loving and supportive brother, Odell Cooper; one daughter, Belinda Cooper Stewart and husband, Willie; two sons, Alfred Cooper Sr. and wife, Sheryle, and Ray Anthony McGee; seven grandchildren, LeKeitha Cooper-Stander and husband, Percy, Tiwarski Stewart, Tameka Shaw, Tobias Ellis, TyAndre Ellis and wife, Keitra, Sharronica Stewart and Alfred Cooper Jr.; nine great-grandchildren, Breand Stander, Xavier Pree, Keremi Stander, TiMiya Stewart, Delanquian Stewart, MyLeah Stewart, Madison Pree, Sydney Mason and Xaria Ellis; two special cousins, Elizabeth Blanton and Faye Horton Sampson; and a number of other relatives and friends.
