NATCHEZ — Effective Saturday, Aug. 4, the Canal Street and Tracetown offices of United States Postal Service offices will change Saturday operating hours.

The Tracetown Post Office, 55 Seargent S. Prentiss Drive, will cease to be open on Saturdays, effective Aug. 4, and the Main Post Office, 214 N. Canal St., will be open from 10 a.m. until noon, effective Aug. 4.

Currently, the Tracetown USPS office is open 10 a.m. until noon Saturdays and the Main USPS office on N. Canal Street is closed on Saturdays, so effectively, the two offices are flip flopping Saturday hours of operation beginning Aug. 4.

Customers will still be able to drop off mail at the Tracetown location on Saturdays and pick-ups there will occur on Mondays.

Post Office Supervisor Rouslyn Newman said the switch in hours is attributed to more patrons visiting the Canal Street office than the Tracetown office and staffing availability.

“There is more traffic picking up packages at our (214 N. Canal St.) location,” Newman said.

In addition, the Main Post Office has the staff to support the change in hourly operations, whereas the Tracetown Post Office had been limited to one mailroom clerk on Saturdays.
