Last year, local softball player Addison Jackson made the trip to Orlando, Florida as a USSSA All-American. This year, three others from the Miss-Lou will join her for the elite softball tournament.

Jackson will play alongside fellow 12U participant Lily McCarthy, while KG Fisher and Lily Crum were both selected as 10U contestants.

All four girls participate in the Southeast region of USSSA, which is nationwide travel ball organization for young softball players.

After competing in separate tryouts across the South, each player was given the news they were selected to represent the region at the All-American Games that will run this Monday through Saturday.

Jackson was selected as a pitcher, McCarthy as a utility player and both Fisher and Crum as middle infielders.

“I didn’t think I was going to make it because I didn’t think I did that well (at the tryout),” Fisher said. “I was kind of shocked.”

Crum said she too was surprised, but McCarthy said differently.

“I kind of had a feeling I was going to make it,” she said. “When my dad told me, I just knew.”

McCarthy also said she had confidence in her friend.

“I knew (Jackson) was going to make it, too,” she said. “She did really awesome.”

Sadly for the quartet, each was placed on a different team and will only play against one another if their respective team reaches the championship.

For Jackson, however, she said she doesn’t mind.

“It’s a lot of fun because it’s really relaxed,” she said. “I made a lot of friends that I still talk to. There are players from everywhere.”

Jackson will enter the eighth grade at Cathedral in the fall. Both Crum and Fisher will enter junior high school as sixth graders at Cathedral, and McCarthy will be a seventh grader at Delta Charter School.

Before they settle in to a new school year, each player said they were excited to make the trip to Florida.

“Of course I want to play through the whole thing and I want to win,” McCarthy said. “But, I am excited to go to Disney World, too.”
