VIDALIA — Services for Alma Dale Campbell, 98, of Natchez, who died MONDAY, Aug. 6, 2018, at her residence with family, will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Vidalia with the Rev. Joseph Xavier officiating.
Burial will follow at the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Mrs. Campbell was born Oct. 16, 1919, in Vidalia, the daughter of John Dale Jr. and Alma Roger Dale.
She married Richard Andrew Campbell of Ferriday and they moved to Natchez in 1951.
Campbell was well-known as a premier and gracious hostess of Natchez, opening her home, Edgewood, during the Natchez Pilgrimage for five decades.
She was a member of the Garden Club of America, president of the Pilgrimage Garden Club and was a charter member of the Antiques Forum. She chaired the Longwood Restoration Committee, which was her favorite project, helping to preserve the history of Natchez’s most unique home.
Campbell was a member of the Natchez Cemetery Association and a member of both St. Mary Basilica and Our Lady of Lourdes, where she was baptized in 1919. She was also a member of the William Dunbar Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and The Order of First Families of Mississippi.
Campbell was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, and one son, Richard Andrew Campbell Jr.
Survivors include three children, Dale Campbell Fairbanks and husband, Bill, Judy Lowe Campbell and Brian Douglas Campbell and wife, Donna; 11 grandchildren, Alma Dale Campbell Brown and husband, Dan Senor, Elizabeth Gentry Brann and her husband, Michael, Anna Kathryne Campbell Kronenberger and husband, Brian, Lauren Campbell Hughey and husband, Jim, Helene Meredith St. Clair and husband, Tom, Judith Campbell Jones and husband, Jason, Christen Campbell Siegel and husband, Stephen, Richard Andrew Campbell III and wife, Heather, Brian Douglas Campbell Jr. and wife, Betsy, William Gilmore Fairbanks and Catherine Claire Campbell; and 23 great-grandchildren, all of whom called her “Cher.”
The family wishes to extend their gratitude for the loving care of our “Miss Alma” to Southern Angels Staffing Services, Camellia Hospice and Heart2Heart Home Health Care.
