NATCHEZ — Adams County Christian School used a 13-hit barrage led by Marlee Magee to defeat the Madison-Ridgeland Academy Lady Patriots 7-1 Monday night.

Madison-Ridgeland was the second MAIS Class AAAA opponent  for Lady Rebels, who now have a 1-1 record for the 2018 season.

“The batting was pretty good. We had a good approach at hitting the ball. They played great and scored some runs,” ACCS head coach Tate Lipscomb said.

Magee went 3-for-4 with a home run, four runs batted in and two runs scored. She was one of five Lady Rebels who had multiple hits. Cassi Haydel went 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored. Winning pitcher Becca Cowan also went 2-for-3. Both Geri Brumfield and Makenna Patt went 2-for-4 with Patt adding one RBI and Brumfield scoring one run.

ACCS scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning and it remained 2-0 until MRA scored its only run of the game in the top of the fourth inning. Then the Lady Rebels put the game away with a four-run rally in the bottom of the fourth to go ahead 6-1. They added another run in the bottom of the fifth.

“We played pretty good tonight. MRA is a little down this year. They’re not the powerhouse they once were,” Lipscomb said.

Cowan went five innings and gave up just one earned run on four hits with three strikeouts and three walks. Shelby Mason allowed two hits, walked three and struck out two in her two innings on the mound.

“Becca pitched really well. She threw great. Got a little tired toward the end and that’s why we brought Shelby in,” Lipscomb said. “Shelby, her hands were a little sweaty. She had trouble throwing strikes, but she got us out of the game.”

Next up for ACCS is the MAIS District 5-AAA opener today at 7:30 p.m. at defending Class AAA state champion Silliman Institute.

“It was a good warm-up for us tonight. We’ve got to bring our ‘A’ game against Silliman. If not, we’re going to be in trouble,” Lipscomb said.
