FERRIDAY — Locals have the opportunity to hear a country, folk and blues music mixture created close to home this weekend.
Gabriel Bass of Natchez, formerly of Ferriday, decided to organize a live music event, which starts at 6 p.m. Friday at the Delta Music Museum and Arcade Theatre, 218 Louisiana Ave., Ferriday, that will showcase all original music performed by Mississippi talent.
Admission is $10 and is free for children under the age of 12.
A lot of people know Bass through local performances in Natchez, Vidalia and Ferriday, said Linda Gardner, the director of the museum.
“Gabriel Bass, Betsy Berryhill and Chad Perry performed in April at the Arcade Theatre, and that’s how the idea to host a songwriter show developed,” Gardner said.
She said Berryhill and Perry — who are from Brookhaven and Jackson will rejoin Bass on stage Friday, accompanied by performances from Sammy Qadan of Natchez, Eric Woods of Hattiesburg and Sophie Smith of Brookhaven.
“It’s going to be all original music,” Gardner said. “For me, I like hearing original music. … One of these guys might be the next Tony Joe White who wrote over 300 songs.”
Gardner said the doors open at 5 p.m. Friday, concessions will be provided in the lobby and audience members are invited to join performers during an open mic portion of the show.
The theater only accepts cash for tickets and concessions, Gardner said.
“(Bass) said if this is successful, they hope to do more events like this in the future,” she said. “We’re excited for a different kind of live music event. We’re hoping more people will come on board and join us at the historic Music Arcade Theatre.”
