NATCHEZ — Adams County supervisors are expected to make scholarship presentations and discuss other county business at their regular meeting at 9 a.m. Monday.

Each year, county officials have the option to donate to a scholarship program for local high school students through a program started by supervisor Ricky Gray, said District 1 Supervisor Mike Lazarus.

“We have two lucky students who will be receiving those scholarships,” Lazarus said.

This year’s recipients of the scholarships include Trinity Episcopal School graduate Danielle Marie Brown and Natchez High School graduate Faith G. Lewis.

Also at Monday’s meeting, Lazarus said he and supervisor David Carter plan to request travel approval to attend the Leadership Mississippi Conference in Washington, D.C.

Lazarus said the conference is a three-day event that includes a tour of the White House and informational presentations.

Lazarus said during his departmental report, he plans to make a presentation about U.S. Interstate 14, a proposed highway project between Interstate 10 in West Texas and Interstate 20 in Augusta, Georgia, that could pass through Natchez.

Lazarus said he is advocating the project and hopes other supervisors and elected leaders will join him.

“I believe I-14 is the key that will turn Natchez and Adams County around,” Lazarus said.

Other agenda items for Monday’s Board of Supervisors meeting include:

-An annual report from President of Copiah-Lincoln Community College Jane Hulon.

-A presentation from Day Dearing on Alcorn’s Business Intern Program.

-A discussion with the president of the Adams County Port Commission regarding a new appointee.

-A discussion with Jerry Cain regarding the purchase of a portion of the International Paper site to allow room for an access point to an electrical plant.
