YORKTOWN, Va. — Donna McMullen Allen Smith, 83, of Yorktown, Va., died Friday, Aug. 3, 2018, after a brief illness.
Burial will be at a later date at Holly Memorial Gardens in Charlottesville, Va.
W.J. Smith and Son Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Smith was a native of Washington, D.C., but also formerly resided in Vidalia and Summerville, S.C.
She demonstrated her love of music as a pianist, organist, singer, school music teacher and choir director. A desire to serve others led her to become a registered nurse at the age of 42. She continued working in hospitals and as an educator for the next 25 years. Dedicated to missions, she had the privilege of serving on a medical mission trip to Honduras in 1985, and was a volunteer/leader in the Women’s Missionary Union groups at Parkway Baptist Church in Natchez and Crowfield Baptist Church in Goose Creek, S.C.
Smith is preceded in death by her parents, William H. and Angie Everett McMullen of Barboursville, Va.; her first husband, James P. Allen of Frederick, Md.; her second husband, the Rev. Ellis O. Smith of Ferriday; and two nieces, Amy McIntyre of Charlotte, N.C., and Katherine Michelle Allen of Baton Rouge.
Survivors include four sons, Phillip J. Allen and wife, Toni Callender, of Monroeville, Ala., David W. Allen and wife, retired Lt. Col. Jan Mixson, of Yorktown, Douglas M. Allen and wife, Tamara Daugherty, of Baton Rouge and Paul E. Allen and wife, Sarah Atkinson, of Goose Creek; one brother, William H. McMullen Jr. and wife, Kaye McIntrye, of Charlotte; one nephew, Alan McIntyre and wife, Sarah Rowe, of Andover, N.H.; former daughter-in-law, Marlene Amadee Allen of Baton Rouge; five stepchildren, Jerrell Smith and wife, Jean, of West Monroe, La., Brenda Smith Barton and husband, Jackie, of Pineville, La., Butch Smith and wife, Trisha, of Calhoun, La., Mary Smith Tipton and husband, Guy, of Lake Charles, La., and Amanda Smith Andrews and husband, Rick, of Pineville; Donna was blessed with an extended blended family of 21 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
