MAIS roundup: Cathedral shuts out CHEF, Centreville, WCCA lose

The Cathedral Green Wave scored three touchdowns in a span of less than a minute and a half on its way to a 40-0 win over the Christian Home Educators Fellowship Patriots Friday night.

At the 10:18 mark of the first quarter, Tyriek Lee scored on a 15-yard run. Then just 50 seconds later, J.T. Taylor scored on a six-yard run. Taylor connected with Lance Gaude on a 64-yard touchdown pass with 8:55 to go in the opening quarter for a 20-0 lead.

But Cathedral was not done putting up points in the first quarter. Kendall Washington and Ben Foster each had 2-yard TD runs as the Green Wave would take a commanding 34-0 lead.

The Green Wave would not score again until there was 7:31 remaining in the third quarter when Hollis Lees threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Joseph Garrity.

Meanwhile, CHEF could not find any traction offensively. The Patriots had just seven first downs and 86 yards of total offense while turning the ball over five times.

Cathedral, on the other hand, racked up 14 first downs and 369 yards of total offense with just one turnover. Taylor went 3-for-5 passing for 124 yards. In addition to his touchdown pass, Lees was the Green Wave’s leading rusher with 17 carries for 53 yards.

Cathedral (2-0) next plays at Amite School Center at 7 p.m. Friday.

Parklane Academy 45, Centreville Academy 14

MCCOMB — The Parklane Academy Pioneers used a 31-point second quarter to pull away for a 45-14 win over the Centreville Academy Tigers Friday night.

Parklane was only up 14-6 on Centreville after one quarter of play before scoring 21 straight points to go up 35-6. Neither team scored in the second half.

Centreville Academy (1-2) hosts Ben’s Ford Christian School at 7 p.m Friday.

Briarfield Academy 38, WCCA 12

WOODVILLE — The Briarfield Academy Rebels showed Wilkinson County Christian Academy why they are the defending MAIS 8-Man state champions with a convincing 38-12 win over the Rams Friday night.

WCCA (0-2) plays host to Riverdale Academy at 7 p.m. Friday.
