GRAMBLING, La. — The Delta Charter School Storm needed less than one quarter to defeat the Lincoln Preparatory School Panthers 27-0 Friday night after the game was called due to inclement weather.
Delta Charter scored four touchdowns, the last at the 1:46 mark of the first quarter before lightning in the Grambling area delayed the game.
Then the weather got so bad that the game officials had no choice but to end the game at that point.
“We looked like a completely different team from last week,” Storm head coach Blake Wheeler said. “We started a lot of young players. They came out more relaxed. It was a complete team effort in that first quarter. I can’t say enough about our kids and our coaches.”
The rout started when Lincoln Prep fumbled the opening kickoff. Hayden McFarland recovered it, and Freddie Mango proceeded to score on the first offensive play of the game.
Delta Charter (1-1) plays host to General Trass High School Friday at 7 p.m.
