Officers arrived and found Melinda Nations lying in her driveway with numerous injuries and surrounded by dogs that resembled pit bulls, said Vidalia Police Chief Joey Merrill.

Merrill said Nations was able to tell officers three to five dogs that belonged to a neighbor had attacked her.

Nations was transported “Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center” in Baton Rouge due to the extent of her injuries, Merrill said.

Officers questioned the owner of the dogs, who voluntarily surrendered all five of the animals to the Vidalia Police Department, Merrill said.

The Vidalia Police Department take vicious dog attacks very seriously, Merrill said.

Merrill asked that the community pray and continue to pray for Nations, as she will have a long recovery, he said.

The dogs have been transported to the pound with charges against their owner still pending until further investigation, Merrill said.
