FAYETTE — A mother and daughter were killed Wednesday when the car they were traveling in crossed a median, ran off U.S. 61 near Mississippi 552 in Fayette and struck a tree, said Cpl. Brandon Fortenberry public relations officer Mississippi Highway Patrol District 9.
Fortenberry said troopers responded to a call at 7:45 a.m., and initial investigation revealed Shalander Tyler, 46, and passenger, Cristal Tyler, 11, both of Fayette, were in a Chevrolet HHR traveling southbound on U.S. 61.
Fortenberry said the vehicle crossed the median, crossing both northbound lanes of U.S. 61 and then off the east side of U.S. 61. Fortenberry said the car then went down an embankment and collided with a tree, ejecting Cristal Tyler.
Both were pronounced dead at the scene, and Fortenberry said the accident is under investigation.
