NATCHEZ — Natchez Mayor Darryl Grennell confirmed Saturday that he has terminated Temple Hendricks, administrative assistant to the Mayor.
Hendricks had worked in the mayor’s office for several administrations.
“I terminated Temple Hendricks,” Grennell said. “It was a personnel matter, and I have no further comment.”
Grennell said he plans to find a replacement soon.
Hendricks could not be reached for comment Saturday.
Grennell also said Saturday that the city’s human resources department had concluded its investigation into unspecified complaints filed against Natchez Fire Chief Aaron Wesley, who was placed on administrative leave with pay on Aug. 24.
No action has yet been taken on Wesley’s position, Grennell said.
“I will have to take the results to the board,” Grennell said.
Grennell said he does not believe the city is facing a high turnover rate, despite City Clerk Megan Edmonds resigning last month to manage her family’s business. Grennell said Edmonds’ resignation was a family matter and noted that she agreed to stay on and help the city complete the fiscal year budgeting process.
Grennell also acknowledged that a longtime deputy clerk decided to take retirement at the time Edmonds resigned.
The board of aldermen appointed Natchez Community Development Coordinator James Johnson to serve as interim city clerk and the city plans to hire a fulltime replacement soon.
“I just want productivity in the city,” Grennell said.
