NATCHEZ — On homecoming night, Adams County Christian School snatched victory from the jaws of defeat as the Rebels rallied to upset the Oak Forest Academy Yellow Jackets 26-20 in overtime Friday night at Bobby Marks Stadium.

In a battle between one of the top teams in MAIS Class AAAA and one of the top teams in Class AAA, it looked like Oak Forest was going to head back to Amite, Louisiana, with a victory after John Henry White scored on a one-yard touchdown run and Kaden Slocum threw a successful two-point conversion pass to Preston Hendry with just 45 seconds left in regulation.

That gave the Yellow Jackets a 20-14 lead. But ACCS marched down the field in just a few plays and with time expiring, Sterling Yarbrough threw a nine-yard touchdown pass to Glaston Magee that tied the game at 20-all. However, Jason Wesberry kicked what would have been the game-winning extra point but it was blocked, sending the game into overtime.

Kemari Clark caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from Jakarius Caston in the Rebels’ overtime period, but the two-point conversion pass fell incomplete.

Then the defense rose to the occasion as it kept out Oak Forest (5-1) out of the end zone on fourth-and-one at the one-yard line, giving the Rebels a win over the No. 4 team in Class AAAA.

ACCS went up 14-0 in the first quarter with Caston accounting for both of them. The first was a 42-yard pass from Yarbrough and the second was a seven-yard run. The Rebels could have put the game away early, but they kept shooting themselves in the foot with turnovers and untimely penalties.

Yarbrough completed 15 of 35 passes for 281 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions to go with 12 carries for 68 yards. Clark had eight catches for 134 yards. Caston had 12 carries for 55 yards and one touchdown.

Oak Forest got back in the game on touchdown runs by Thomas Lee in the second and third quarters, respectively. The Yellow Jackets had no passing game to speak of as they went 0-for-6 with two interceptions.

The Rebels out-gained the Yellow Jackets 431 to 187 and had 19 first downs to just eight for Oak Forest.

ACCS (5-0) travels to Clinton, La. to take on Silliman Institute at 7 p.m. Friday in its MAIS District 5-AAA opener.
