COLUMBUS (AP) — A Mississippi woman and her 2-year-old granddaughter have safely escaped from a burning home.
The Commercial Dispatch reports that Valerie Hubbard’s home in Columbus is a total loss after the Tuesday fire.
Hubbard shared the home with two other adults and two children. She says she woke from a nap and checked on her granddaughter. When Hubbard opened a door to the carport, she saw flames.
She grabbed her granddaughter and ran from the house, then grabbed the family dog from the yard.
Nobody else was home at the time.
Hubbard says she does not know how the fire started. An investigation continues.
