Former police officer arrested, bonds set at $250,000

NATCHEZ — A former Natchez police officer was being held Thursday evening in the Adams County Jail on bonds totaling $250,000.

Adrian Shantell Shorter, is being held on charges of simple assault, child abuse, burglary of a dwelling and aggravated assault.

For the aggravated assault charge, Shorter’s bond was set at $200,000 and for the burglary of a dwelling charge, the bond was set at $50,000. Bond for the child abuse charge was set at $20,000.

Natchez Police Department Capt. Scott Frye confirmed late Thursday evening that Shorter had been a Natchez police officer but could not immediately proved exact dates of her tenure in the department.

Reports from The Natchez Democrat, however, referenced her as a Natchez Police officer as late as June 2014.

Frye late Thursday evening also could not elaborate on any of the charges against Shorter, whose initial court appearance is scheduled for 9 a.m. Oct. 9 in Municipal Court.
