MAIS roundup: ACCS remains undefeated

CLINTON, La. — A safety and a blocked extra point, both in the fourth quarter, proved to be the difference as the Adams County Christian School Rebels defeated the Silliman Institute Wildcats 14-13 Friday night in an MAIS District 5-AAA game.

With ACCS holding on to a 12-7 lead after three quarters of play, Dawson Parker sacked Silliman quarterback Brock Berthelot in the end zone for a safety and a 14-7 Rebels lead with 9:49 remaining.ACCS (6-0, 1-0) travels to Franklinton, La. and out of district play to take on Bowling Green School Friday at 7 p.m.

Central Hinds Academy 36,

Cathedral 7

RAYMOND — It was a rough Friday night for the Cathedral High School Green Wave as it lost to the Central Hinds Academy Cougars 36-7 in a non-district game.

Central Hinds (6-0) scored twice in the first half to take a 14-0 halftime lead. The Cougars scored two touchdowns in the third quarter to make it a 28-0 game. They went up 36-0 midway through the fourth quarter before the Green Wave finally scored a touchdown late in the game to avoid the shutout.

Cathedral (4-2) hosts longtime rival St. Aloysius High School Friday at 7 p.m.

Brookhaven Academy 23,

Centreville Academy 22

BROOKHAVEN — The Centreville Academy Tigers thought they had the momentum on their side after taking a 22-7 lead over the Brookhaven Academy Cougars with 3:22 to go in the third quarter. The Cougars started their rally with a touchdown with 1:26 left in the third quarter to make it a 22-14 game. Then they scored again, this time with 6:19 remaining in the fourth quarter to be down just 22-20 before driving the ball down the field to set up the game-winning field goal.

Centreville Academy (3-4, 0-1) hosts Silliman Institute in non-district action Friday at 7 p.m.

Prentiss Christian School 56,

WCCA 34

PRENTISS — Robert Buckley and Wade Watkins each had three touchdown runs as the Prentiss Christian School Saints defeated the Wilkinson County Christian Academy Rams 56-34 Friday night in an MAIS 8-Man Division 4 game.

Buckley had touchdown runs of 54, 3, and 2 yards while Watkins had scoring runs of 60, 34, and 42 yards to lead Prentiss Christian’s ground game. With the win, the Saints improved to 4-3 overall and 2-1 in division play.

The Saints finished with 469 total rushing yards, which offset an incredible game by WCCA’s D’mario Weathersby, who had 12 carries for 189 yards and four touchdowns to go with a six-yard TD pass to Hunter Gaines. However, the Rams were hurt by two lost fumbles.

WCCA (3-3, 1-1) travels to Gulfport to take on division opponent Christian Collegiate Academy Friday at 7 p.m.
