LHSAA roundup: Tigers beat Storm 44-6

SICILY ISLAND — Tyreke Tolliver accounted for three touchdowns and Landrae James had two long touchdown runs as the Sicily Island High School Tigers defeated the Delta Charter School Storm 44-6 Friday night in an LHSAA District 2-1A game.

Tolliver had a 50-yard touchdown run and completed six of 10 passes for 99 yards and two touchdowns, both to Keonte Dunbar, and no interceptions. The Tolliver-to-Dunbar connections went for 41 and 42 yards.

James added touchdown runs of 40 and 45 yards for Sicily Island, which jumped out to a 22-0 halftime lead and never looked back.

By the time Delta Charter finally got on the scoreboard with 25 seconds left in the third quarter, the Storm was already down 36-0.

Sicily Island ended up with 226 total rushing yards and 325 yards of total offense.

The Tigers’ defense also got in on the scoring when Zavier Bates picked off a pass and returned it 50 yards for a touchdown. He also had 13 tackles and one sack.

James had 12 tackles while Tolliver had 11 tackles and one interception. John Polk also had 11 tackles. In addition to his two TD receptions, Dunbar had 10 tackles on defense. Maurice Humphries Jr. finished with eight tackles.

Delta Charter (1-4, 0-2) hosts Delhi High School Friday at 7 p.m. For the second time in three weeks, Sicily Island (3-2, 1-1) will travel to Monroe, La., this time to take on St. Frederick High School at 7 p.m. Friday.

Lakeside 57, Block 12

SIBLEY, La. — The LHSAA Class 2A Lakeside High School Warriors defeat the Class 1A Block High School Bears 57-12 Friday night.

Lakeside was only up 19-6 nearly midway through the second quarter before scoring two touchdowns and two two-point conversions to take a 35-6 halftime lead.

The Warriors then outscored Block 19-6 in the third quarter for a commanding 54-12 advantage.

Block (0-5) returns to LHSAA District 3-1A action Friday at 7 p.m. when the Bears travel to Lena, La. to take on Northwood-Lena High School.
