JEFFERSON COUNTY — Twelve students and a bus driver were injured in a school bus crash Monday morning in Jefferson County, Jefferson County Sheriff Peter Walker said.

All of the students onboard, Walker said, suffered minor scrapes and bruises and all of them had been treated and released from the Jefferson County Hospital by Tuesday afternoon.

The driver suffered a gash to the forehead, Walker said, and also was treated and released from the Jefferson County Hospital.

Walker said the accident is still under investigation.

“The driver had picked up most of the children,” Walker said, before turning off of Stonington Road and on to Franklinton, a private road.

“The driver stated that his brakes went out and the bus hit several trees,” Walker said. “At least 12 children got scrapes and bruises, nothing serious.”

Walker said no charges had been filed as of Tuesday afternoon.

“We don’t anticipate any charges, but we are continuing to investigate,” Walker said.
