NATCHEZ — Natchez police are investigating a possible armed robbery that occurred early Monday morning at the Exxon convenience store at Homochitto Street and John R. Junkin Drive.

Shortly after 1 a.m. Monday a man with what Natchez Police Chief Walter Armstrong said appeared to be a gun came in to the store and demanded money.

“He was spooked by the store clerk, bolted out of the store, and we are investigating right now in terms of running down some leads as to what took place,” Armstrong said. “We are looking at one person in particular.”

Armstrong said one customer was in the store at the time, and police are speaking to him and would like to speak to anyone who may have been in the parking lot at the time.

No one was hurt and nothing was taken in the incident, Armstrong said.

“The intent was there,” Armstrong said. “He demanded money and had what appeared to be a gun. We are asking anyone who may have seen something to contact Crime Stoppers or the police department if they know anything.”

The Natchez Police Department can be reached by calling 601-445-3554 and Crime Stoppers by calling 601-442-5000.
