Calvin Cole Young Jr.

NATCHEZ — A celebration of life for Calvin Cole Young Jr., 90, of Newport News, Va., who died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2018, will be held at a later date in Newport News.     
Burial will be at the Jersey Settlers Cemetery in Kingston.
Cremation Society of Virginia assisted the family with arrangements.
Mr. Young was born Aug. 20, 1928, in Palmetto, Fla., the oldest of six children born to Calvin C. and Sybil Horn Young.
Young grew up in Birmingham, Ala. He joined the U.S. Navy Air Force at age 17 and earned his GED in the Territory of Hawaii. After discharge, he earned a degree in electronics in Louisville, Ken.
During his work career, the family lived in a number of states. The last 25 years, they lived in Houston. Upon retiring, he and Ella built a home on Smithland Plantation in Adams County where she had grown up. They lived there 22 years before moving to Newport News to be near their daughter.
Young was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Noranne Young Warren and husband, Russell; three brothers, Fred L. Young, Jerry R. Young and wife, Shirley, and Thomas H. Young and wife, Sydney; and one sister-in-law, Lynne Young.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Ella McCaleb Young; four children, Calvin C. Young III and wife, Victoria, Thomas Randolph Young and wife, Carolyn, Jennifer Anne Young McNeil and husband, Wilfred, and Andrew Edgar Young and wife, Barbara; eight grandchildren, Calvin C. Young IV and wife, Melissa, Megan Lynne Young, Victor Sidney Young, Lauren Anne Young, Shannon Megan Mills Kovalevsky and husband, Adam, Hope Marie Mills, Christina Anne Young Brown and husband, Corey, and Andrew Edgar Young Jr.; three great-grandchildren, Lana Marisa Young, Calvin C. Young V and Sofia Marie Kovalevsky; one brother, Joe Earl Young and wife, Carol; one sister-in-law, Penny Young; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorials may be sent to Kingston United Methodist Church in Natchez or to a charity of choice.
