TIOGA, La. — Vidalia High School hung tough with Class 4A Tioga High School for about a quarter and a half before the Indians scored 16 straight points to close out the first half and went on to defeat the Class 2A Vikings 57-32 Friday night.

Cam’ron Randall had touchdown runs of 75 and 36 yards for Vidalia in a mostly back-and-forth first quarter that kept Vidalia close with Tioga (6-2), but the Vikings trailed 14-12 with about 4:00 left in that quarter.

That two-point deficit would be the closest that the Vikings would get to taking the lead for the rest of the game. The Indians, however, scored two touchdowns after that to go up 27-12 at the end of the quarter. Tristan Weatherly’s three-yard touchdown pass to Jared Simpson with about 10:00 to go in the second quarter cut Tioga’s lead to 27-18, but the Indians dominated the rest of the quarter to take a 43-18 lead at halftime. DeMikal McCoy picked off a pass and returned it 14 yards for a touchdown to make it 43-24 with nearly 9:00 remaining in the third quarter. But the Indians would score twice while the Vikings’ only score after that was a 14-yard pass from Weatherly to Randall at the end of the third quarter. Vidalia, 3-1 in LHSAA District 2-2A, returns to district play Friday at 7 p.m. when the Vikings travel to Mangham, La. to take on the reeling Mangham High School Dragons.
