NATCHEZ— Registration for the 2018 U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Campaign will be accepted from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Joseph Frazier Elementary School.

The Toys for Tots campaign presents gifts to children who are between the ages of 2 and 16, said Valerie Quinn, local Toys for Tots coordinator.

Assistant coordinator Loraine Griffin said approximately 500 to 600 children are registered for Toys for Tots locally each year.

“There are so many children who are neglected and left out, and it’s not always the parents’ fault,” Griffin said. “The economy has taken a toll. We’re here to do what needs to be done because children need to have a good Christmas.”

To register, parents or guardians must present proof of income, a valid ID and Social Security card as well as a birth certificate and Social Security card for each of their children for them to be eligible for Toys for Tots, Quinn said.

Those who receive SNAP must provide proof of SNAP benefits in place of their proof of income, Quinn said.

Griffin said the Toys for Tots campaign, which started Oct. 1, has already placed nearly 50 boxes where toy donations can be dropped at different businesses throughout Natchez and Adams County, including The Markets, Fred’s, Merit Health Natchez, car dealerships and local schools.

“It doesn’t need to be a lot of toys,” Griffin said. “It’s the giving that counts.”
