ASCO deputy finds missing Hattiesburg woman on state silver alert

NATCHEZ — A sharp-eyed Adams County Sheriff’s Office deputy found a missing Hattiesburg woman on U.S. 84 in Adams County just after 8 a.m. today.

Deputy Chris Logan was patrolling near the Denbury Resources oil facility on U.S. 84 in Cranfield when he spotted a 2016 black Jeep Cherokee driven by 84-year-old Virginia Barrett of Hattiesburg.

Barrett had gone missing on Wednesday morning and family members feared for her whereabouts due to her judgment being impaired by dementia.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation had issued a silver alert for Barrett. The alert has now been canceled.

“Deputy Chris Logan found her,” said Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten. “She’s OK and coherent. Her dog is OK, and they’re being taken to the sheriff’s office as we alert her family.”

“Deputy Logan deserves the credit for being aware and finding her.
