JONESVILLE — Services for Joseph Darby Russell, 94, of Jonesville, who died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2018, in Jonesville, 36 hours after the love of his life, his wife of 74 years, Emily Russell died, will be 2 p.m. today at Utility Baptist Church in Jonesville with the Rev. James Foster and the Rev. Mike Russell officiating.
Burial will follow at Locust Grove Cemetery in Jonesville under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home in Jonesville.
Visitation will be from noon until service time today at the church.
Mr. Russell was born July 13, 1924, in Athens, Ala., the son of Joseph Wilburn Russell and Nina Pearl Webb Russell.
He was a lifetime farmer and mechanic and a member of Utility Baptist Church.
Russell proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Pacific Theater.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Emily Mae Russell; one daughter, Susan Darlene LaPrarie; five sisters, Ester Walker, Louise Burch, Maxine Payne, Mary Wood and Kathline Beck; and two brothers, Ted Strong Russell and Ronald Smith.
Survivors include three sons, Joseph C. Russell and wife, JoAnn, Douglas Wayne Russell and Jimmy Randall Russell and wife, Lisa, all of Jonesville; son-in-law, Donald Wayne La Prarie; one brother, Billy Eugene Russell of Truman, Ark.; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Scott Russell, Josh Russell, Matthew Russell, Charlie Coates, Phillip LaPrarie and Jacob LaPrarie.
Honorary pallbearers will be great-grandchildren.
