NATCHEZ — Lynda Lee Drive was blocked most of the day Monday from Old Washington Road to Martin Luther King Jr. Street because of low-hanging electrical transmission lines, officials said.
Entergy’s main transmission lines were hanging low after an overhead guy support pole started leaning due to erosion around the pole, said Tim Runnels, Entergy Customer Service Representative.
“The road was blocked for safety reasons for Entergy and the public,” Runnels said, adding that Entergy expected to have the lanes re-opened by 8 p.m. Monday, “With the exception of one westbound lane that will be used for equipment supporting the pole.”
“Entergy plans to install two new steel transmission poles soon that will eliminate the need for the support pole that was damaged due to erosion,” Runnels said.
Entergy, Runnels said, is working with the Mississippi Department of Transportation, local law enforcement and Natchez Mayor Darryl Grennell to maintain safety for the public and Entergy.
Triumph Lane will still be blocked until work is completed and drivers will have to enter Triumph from MLK instead of from Lynda Lee Drive, Runnels said.
Runnels said Entergy expects the work to be completed soon.
